From an old, new yorkers perspective, the neighborhood always on the fringe took off, was the place, and then fell flat on its face. The causality list is long and includes old mainstay eateries Mekong (opened in’96) and personality boutiques with favorites, the 10-year boho shop, Tracy Feith (Mulberry + Spring). Yikes, TF at The Surf Lodge… bad PR girls, bad bad! Other ousters, glam shoe babe, Hollywould and the home shop Nancy Koltes. Geez, remember Find Outlet? Way gone. Now it’s just big business, Ralph Lauren’s Double RL, Vince…Hey, at least Erica Tanov is alive. Go visit!
Bottom line here: Rent increased with the neighborhood pushing the edgy cool and vintage old school up, up and away like the flight of the red balloon.
