biker time @ the red rock.

Where the bad boys used to play.

Who didn’t like them some good old fashion biker fun?  now it’s gone (remember we’re in the high line hood now; no longer that stretch of avenue which was once deemed a bit shady, where you might encounter a fight or two). Yep Red Rock West no longer; you will miss the one guy bashing his head with an ice cube and the other on his 5th shot of Jameson.  This was a true NYC biker bar which has dimished much like that of Hogs and Heifers which holds on by its horns…even though the bikers have long since gone. In the RRWS space, a new upscale (sit down) pizza joint…still untitled.

say it isn’t so or say it IS. PLEASE SAY IT IS.

I can already taste the lightly toasted English muffin covered burger with a touch of Swiss and pickle washed down by a Harp…or Bass (toss-up).

Via the New York Magazine’s Grub Street; Chumley’s showed signs of life this week by applying for a liquor license.  I felt alive.  Excited. Confused.  Especially since I strolled by a few weeks ago, it was covered in boards.  This is promising news off the heels of my earlier post…this is GOOD NEWS for old New Yorkers and New, New Yorkers alike.  Karma.

Another warm, inviting place in the winter, great brunch to boot along with a nice spring + summer spot.  Cool signage to boot.  Joined the elizabeth street RIP relics.

remember the garden? the curve of the bar? the warm lighting? the vintage signing and cool match books?  A cozy spot for a hot toddy on a bitter cold New York day. Or a hamburger and pint.  M&R Bar tried to resurrect on the Bowery as a cellar.  I never thought it picked up the vibes of the old place (closed in 2003).  Now the resurrected has also perished.

Treats for Jimmy? I’m still a fan of the KC startup (gone widespread) Three Dog Bakery who rocks out natural ingredients in a true bakery setting.  Always loved the Holden Bent Plywood Dog Bowls (he also rocks a bent plywood cat scratcher.

My friend Kim turned me on to these Wool Dog Toys a la Beignet the Bunny Boiled Wool Dog Toy RX: “Named both for a customer’s dog and for Cafe Du Monde’s mouth-watering fried fritters, this floppy eared, comical hare is both eco-friendly and safe. Constructed from boiled wool and all-natural dyes, Beignet is perfect for a game of fetch or a between-the- paws teething session. A Cheerful Pet is a company with a conscience, donating a portion of their profits to benefit an orphanage in Nepal.”

I won’t beat a dead horse here…BUT, as it were…the Beatrice folks. Don’t try and hack me.  The X FILES SPEAK…THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE… the PARTY IS OVER.

as it were...

The very last of the Mohicans in the meatpacking may well be Hogs and Heifers, although, even the bikers seemed to have dropped off from this once divey, seedy neighborhood which now houses, yes, “Scoop Street” where trendy boutiques under the Scoop umbrella empire sit in a long row which ends with the old mainstay, H&H.

P.S. to that: what is going on with fashion shops taking street cred for entire city blocks? Scoop Street? Marc Jacobs row?  RL Lane?

That’s LAME.

What You Missed.
