That is my new tee and K8′s choice for this gray Friday.  I’ve always loved the creepy comic book kiddy violence, pops of colour (especially red), and simple yet explicit attention to detail.

This is the work of VICTOR HAYDEN; missing in the field.

I last saw him (*maybe we should say…he was last spotted) in the basement of The Time is Always Now (this was Broome street, kids) working– almost like a prisoner– in a very small, cramped room under a stairwell with a dangling Edison light and his set of dripping paints.

He was an unusual fellow. Fascinatingly real.

In the X Files World; a true believer. Like the captain of a ship, he’s was an analog guy; not down with the modern world.  Can’t say I blame him.  You will note this was in 2002.  My sister (donning a space suit after Peter Tunney dressed her and pushed her down a large slide) and I were instantly fascinated by his re-telling of being abducted by a space ship; where a “wet, noodly-like figure” took him. We both wholeheartedly believed him. Charming fellow.

I count myself lucky to have a few of his magnets; a few are rather life-sized.

Victor; if you are out there; come out!

Come out, come out wherever you are!

Say, I’m still vibing colour this week which is a perfect time to pluck a few sale shoes from Keep Company; a fave of mine out of LA for its pretty-cute take on the classic tennis shoe.  In particular, I’m vibing the Green Benten boat shoe.

It’s hot, yes.  Take some time to colorize with K8′s choice this week consisting of the following:

Bag/Umbrella from MoMA.

I also collect and give Matchbox cars as gifts; reasonable and cool.

My good friend Julie Scheu and her three (wise beyond their years) pals have teamed up on Egg Collective.  This good-looking group of women live in Providence, Helsinki, New Orleans and Brooklyn.  Nice sprawl. While this isn’t new news, it should be mentioned these are great items to have in your life. Practical, sharp and smart design.

Their credo:

“It is important for us to create, investigate methods of craft and production, think about the future of the built world, and be mindful of our environment. We design because we find questions in some of life’s most simple tasks that are still unanswered. The result is something beautiful, functional, responsible, and innovative.”

Results are your proof.

K8′s choice this week comes off my favorite site, Cool Hunting which gives smart props to this clean line of leather jammies by Sébastien Kauffmann; a wallet for your phone. Very cool.

K8′s choice is a winner for the weekend.  Lots of time suckage attached. Check out the incredibly cool, fun and addictive Incredibox which allows you to produce your own beats by dragging and clicking with a most excellent cast of black and white figures.

If you are a fashion individual or perhaps you need some tips; look no further than my friend Tracey’s well-edited Front Row Tally. She rocks some vintage, hard to find jammies as well as a fantastic Questionnaire Section.  Black and white, pops of colour and cool pieces.  Check, check, check.

K8′s Choice this week involves my own new project.  I’ve joined the ranks of Tumblr to produce, It’s Unofficial!  There’s no real objective here sans the creative process of placing images together (some borrowed, some from my own collection).  Pop culture, sports, film, music, surfing, letters, books, people of interest, people who think they’re of interest, key words, art and paranoia.  Please check it once in a blue.

A few ideas.

Cool bike designs from old DWR founder, Rob Forbes @ Public.

Don Hamerman’s 20×200 Baseball Series Photographs.

The Big Green Egg Smoker.  Looks weird but food tastes great.

Soccer Aid World Cup Poster.

As I just urged my brother to hit the Film Forum before the 50th Anniversary Restoration of Breathless leaves, so to should you attend. Not to mention, the Forum has excellent popcorn.

And the real mystery here reamains…where is Parisi Bakery Deli on this heavily researched (you know writers gained a few pounds or more throwing down some serious sandies) list?  HOW did those sandwich eaters miss the thick slices of freshly cut meats and those sun-dried tomatoes, pickles, and fresh Italian cheeses, Genoa Salami, Sopressata, Pepperoni all cut to order.  Did I mention how amazing the bread is?   Wow; they dropped the ball on that one.  A Parisi sandy not on the list; shame shame.  It’s certainly on my list.
