In keeping within the vintage signage and a place where, perhaps, Tarantino might shoot a film (nyc style)…it pained to walk up Broadway and see the neon signs on 46th street flicker…flicker and finally OFF at Howard Johnson (HOJO).  This site is fantastic as it notes the various locations around Manhattan.

I know–I reach far– but 2005 was a vintage year when this 46-year-old gem closed; theNew York Times chronicles the history here: At Howard Johnson’s, a Final Few Scoops of PistachioIn a pool of new advertisements + huge billboards…that welcoming H/J neon sign now lies extinguished. But hey, razzle-dazzle Broadway, American Eagle Outfitters is open and ready for business.
