“While I cannot claim New York as my home anymore, there is still a part of me that feels I left myself there. I loved everything about that city, from the smell of the subway to the crowds of people hoarding the sidewalk. I favored even the nuisances, like the disappearance of cabs every time it rained or the hassle it was trying to get groceries up a several-story, walk-up apartment.

Most of all, I miss the little experiences. I miss the Sunday mornings in Central Park when I would sit with friends over coffee and watch little league games. I miss the late nights on the town when we would find ourselves in friend’s restaurants after-hours.

Luckily, a few things are still left, waiting for me every time I return to New York. I long for visits to my favorite haunts: Eye Candy on Lafayette for my favorite vintage jewelry, Smac on 12th (the BEST mac & cheese in the world) and Marie Belle on Broome for an essential bite of chocolate. My life in NYC is best summed up by a line on a t-shirt I bought in there almost 10 years ago: I told you a thousand times, I’m living in the city!”
